German-Texan Heritage Society

The Texas German Day Council and the 2011 German Pioneer Ball proudly honors the German-Texan Heritage Society. The German-Texan Heritage Society is a state-wide organization of about 1,000 members, headquartered at the historic German Free School in Downtown Austin. They are dedicated to promoting awareness and preservation of the German cultural heritage in Texas, focusing on education, cultural programs and historical preservation. In 2010, First Lady Michelle Obama presented the GTHS with the Preserve America Award which recognizes volunteer programs that have accomplished successful efforts in preserving the nation’s historic places.

The GTHS will hold its annual convention on October 7th and 8th, 2011 in the Dallas area at the Sheraton Grand DFW Hotel. This will include a presentation by the Dallas Historical Society, other talks and a Genealogy workshop. The Pioneer Ball will be held at the same location and follows the conclusion of the convention.

The GTHS welcomes the participation of all those interested in GermanTexan Heritage.
